There are a variety of reasons why you should need an outside self-service storage facility. One of the primary reasons would be to move out some valuable stuff from the home that you need stored for some future relocation. Many moving companies have fixed storage facilities where you need to deliver you goods for storage on your own or through additional moving services. Some would offer a free moving truck for this purpose or they could charge extra depending on the distance of your home from the storage facility.

There is another option though and these are called mobile storage units. A trailer or a crate is delivered to your home, which you can fill up with all the stuff you need for storage. The moving and storage company would then pick the trailer up for transfer to the final storage location. Some companies may offer the services of packing the trailer for you at a certain premium. All you need to do is have your own lock ready after they complete packing and loading.

If you are interested in getting the services of a mobile storage unit, you need to take note of the following items:

• The mobile storage unit cannot stay longer near your home. As soon as it is completely full and locked, the storage unit should be immediately transferred to the storage location.
• Get permissions from your neighborhood or from your building if you are living in a condominium to allow the parking of a storage trailer in front of your home or building.
• Homes located on a hill would have problems using a mobile storage unit particularly if the road is inclined or slanted. However, this could be possible if there are some flat parking spaces where the unit can be located.
• The costs for this service would differ on your location and the season or time of the year.
